Cops wake up after 10 days, register FIR against 4 in Solakhian toll plaza case

ROPAR: After ten days, police on Saturday woke up to register a case against four persons in connection with the Solakhain toll plaza incident, after the media highlighted the same.
SSP, Ropar, has also suspended the SHO of Singh Bhagwantpura police station, Lakhwinder Singh, for laxity and for not informing seniors about the incident.
Police have also identified three out of the four persons who beat up the toll plaza attendant, Inderkol Singh, and pointed a pistol at him while refusing to pay the toll fee.However, raids held in Hoshiarpur to nab them did not yield any result.
Police had received a complaint on October 26 but ignored it for ten long days before the matter was highlighted in the media. On Saturday, cops traced the car number through CCTV footage and identified three culprits -- Ravinder Singh, Navi Kapoor and Onkar Singh, all residents of Hoshiarpur district. However, one occupant of the vehicle still remains unidentified.
Police also recorded the statement of Anubhav Dixit, duty manager, Solakhian toll plaza late on Friday evening, before starting investigations. Dixit said the accused were headed for Chandigarh in a silver metallic Scorpio bearing number PB-07-W-1899 around 7 pm on October 25 and were drunk. They claimed to be government employees and demanded exemption from toll tax which the attendant refused, following which they slapped him and threatened him at gun point.
The frightened victim, who hails from Bihar, went on leave the very next day, and has not returned to duty so far. The four accused, who are absconding, have been booked under sections 323 and 506/34 of IPC and 27/54/59 of the Arms Act.
